STREET YOUTH

STREET BOYS

We’ve seen the number of boys and older teens living on the streets increase over the course of the pandemic, becoming more of a challenge now than ever. Having been rejected from their own families and village communities, these boys see each other as family, living together in redundant buildings and moving round the streets. In large groups they often steal for survival, causing trouble in the local community. They are shunned and disliked by the locals and business owners and live in constant risk of being severely beaten by the local men.

Thanks to your support we’ve  partnered  with a local church with a heart for these young men. They host a weekly hot meal and come alongside them, as they get to understand their background, their hopes and their dreams. We’ve proven that this relationship building does work and so far, we’ve seen 3 of the older street boys qualify in trades and a further 6 of the younger boys  in school. As a result of going into education, several of these boys have chosen to go back to their families where we have been working to re-integrate them into their community. The street boys continue to be offered support from our office – advice, medical care, replacement clothing, urgent support needs, and shared meals for celebrations such as Christmas and Easter.

Street Girls – Team No Sleep

It is not the norm to see girls living on the streets, however, some of those who are rejected and kicked out of home due to complex family relationships, find themselves  forming relationships with the street workers.

Where we meet girls under the age of 16, we offer sponsorship to get them into education or skills training to give them a way of earning a living, rather than becoming a street worker. The mature women on the teams know of our office and where they can come if they need help.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

YOUR SUPPORT HELPS US TO GET MORE OF THESE YOUNG PEOPLE INTO SCHOOL AND SKILLS TRAINING, HELPING THEM MAKE THE MOVE TO GET OFF THE STREETS.
